How to safely cut invisible cable ducts
For safety reasons, and because it looks better, electric cables should always be laid inside the wall. Read about what you need to do to achieve a safe and neat result.
Procedure:
For safety reasons, and because it looks better, electric cables should always be laid inside the wall. When laying them in walls made of concrete or masonry, you have to cut a cable slot. If you make the slot somewhat bigger to begin with, you can easily lay another cable in it.
Use a metal detector to check whether other cables or pipes run through the wall. Then be absolutely sure to switch off the fuse.
With the help of a spirit level, mark the perpendicular course of the cable duct.
Now use a chisel to mortise the cable slots along the marked lines. Important: (1) The chisel must be wider than the cable(s). (2) Be absolutely sure to wear protective glasses when chiselling!
Once the cable slot is finished, fix the cables in it using cable straps and fill the slot with cement to seal it.
