Get your wooden windows fit for the coming years
Wooden windows need a new coat of paint after a few cold winters. Here, we will show you how to keep them in shape for the next few years.
If they are looked after properly, wooden windows keep looking good for a long time. However, they will need a new coat of paint after a few cold winters.
Mask the window panes. First of all, clean the surfaces that are to be painted using soapy water and then sand off the old paint. If the damage is superficial and does not reach the actual wood, all that is necessary is light sanding with fine sanding paper and then a thin coat of paint.
If there are deeper scratches, unhinge the window casements, lay them on two trestles and sand the deep grooves until smooth, ideally using a delta sander (medium grit: 100 to 120).
Once you have removed the sanding dust, paint the windows using a medium-sized round brush.
Once the first coat is applied and dry, the new paint should be lightly sanded again (fine grit: 180 to 240). Then the second coat is applied.
