The days of using a brush are over – today we spray! With Bosch paint sprayers, you can easily and evenly apply paints, varnishes and lacquers with minimal hassle. Even in hard-to-reach places, blobs and brush marks are now a thing of the past!

What can paint spray systems do?

Our paint spray guns can apply colour and varnish to both large surfaces like walls and smaller, angular objects like furniture and radiators. Spray paint machines have significant advantages over rollers and brushes, including:
•  Faster and more comfortable work: Paint sprayers make light work of painting and varnishing jobs, even in high and hard-to-reach places. Spraying is less strenuous and better for your body than using a brush.
•  Even finish: Paint spray systems produce a thin and even layer across a range of surfaces, preserving the neatness and structure of the coating.
•  Better surface quality: Once applied, the paint forms a smooth, closed film. As such, your surfaces are better protected against moisture, UV rays, weather conditions and germs.
•  Efficient paint use: You use less paint with a sprayer than with conventional brush painting.

How do paint sprayers work?

There are two different types of spray technologies:
•  HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure): The device produces a stream of air that carries the paint to the gun itself. This turns the paint into a fine mist when it exits the nozzle using a high volume of air and low pressure.
•  Airless sprayers: Instead of air, a pump transports the paint to the gun. The pressure atomises it into fine droplets.
Bosch paint spray guns work using air. They are user-friendly, easy to clean and produce a smaller spray mist compared to airless systems. What should I consider when buying a paint sprayer?

If you’re looking to buy a paint sprayer, you should think about what it is you want to spray. When selecting a specific model, consider the following criteria:
•  Spray substance: If you’re looking to use your paint spray system for different projects, you’ll likely need a universal spray gun that can apply a range of different substances. This way, you won’t encounter problems when switching between thin varnishes and thick paints.
•  Operating mode: Corded devices require constant access to a socket, whereas battery-operated spray guns can be used anywhere. These cordless paint sprayers need recharging every so often – the frequency of which depends on the battery and model.
•  Delivery volume: This measures how much paint is sprayed from the nozzle. A high delivery volume gives a quicker and more saturated paint application on large surfaces.
•  Paint application: This measurement indicates how quickly a surface can be painted or varnished.
•  Container volume: The larger the container volume, the longer you can work in one sitting. A high container volume is particularly beneficial for larger surfaces and bigger projects.
•  Hose length: For floor-standing models, a longer hose provides greater range of movement, but this factor is less important for portable machines.
•  Available accessories: Most paint sprayers come with a set of nozzles, a couple of containers and a cleaning brush. There are also additional accessories for sale, such as extra paint containers and spray guns.

Bosch paint spray systems for a variety of projects

Paint sprayers can be used for a wide range of applications and projects, both inside and outside the home. Below, you’ll find some tips and ideas on how to use your paint spray gun for walls, furniture and a variety of other surfaces: 

  • Lightweight, spray paint guns are the best choice for painting and varnishing materials like wood and metal. Repainting furniture or other angular objects like stair railings can be painted quickly and efficiently. 

  • For outdoor projects, a cordless, battery-powered paint sprayer is best. This way, you can weatherproof your wooden fences and colourful garden furniture without worrying about finding access to the mains. With a battery-operated spray gun, you can take your DIY work anywhere! 

  • If your interior walls need a refresh or you’d like to paint a pattern for more pizazz, it’s best to choose more powerful spray systems. This way, your device can handle larger surfaces and thicker paint more easily. Check out our tips for painting walls for more information. 

  • Need to remove your old wallpaper? No problem – simply fill the container with water and spray a little on your walls. Then, scrape the wallpaper off with a spatula. 

  • If you want to add colour to your floor, you can apply primer, paint and sealer all with a paint spray system. Just make sure the products you use are suitable for your tiles. 

FAQs on paint spray systems

Whether battery-powered or corded, Bosch paint sprayers are exceptionally easy to use. That said, you’ll still likely have a few questions about the device. Read the following FAQs to find out more about these revolutionary machines! 

You should aim to stand around 15-25cm away from the object you are spraying. This distance depends on the spray gun you are using, but it should remain constant throughout the entire process for the best results. Always hold the paint sprayer straight in front of you. 

Thin substances like wood varnishes, oils and lacquers can be used without diluting them. For substances that can be thinned, such as lacquer paints, primers and radiator paints, we recommend thinning them up to 10% before application. For emulsion and thicker paints, we suggest at least 5% thinning. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when thinning paint, as this may differ from our recommendations. 

Any leftover paint in the container can be poured back into the bucket, which can be stored for a while if airtight. However, any paint that has been thinned should be used immediately. 

To keep your paint spray gun in the best condition, always clean it immediately after use to prevent any paint residue from drying inside. To clean, remove all paint containers and rinse them with warm water, or use additional thinner if required. Detailed instructions can be found in the user manual. 

Unlike when working with a roller or brush, everything in the room that you don’t want painted should be covered and protected. This applies to windows, doors, radiators, and furniture. Objects can be covered with cling film, fleece or tarpaulin. 

Paint sprayers produce fine mists of paint particles through the air, so you should always wear protective clothing, including a mask and goggles, when working. Respiratory masks with filters are recommended when using paint, as this protects you from both fine paint droplets and toxic fumes. Painting work is best done outdoors, but failing this, always keep your windows open.
